Is cilantro used as heavily in Mexico as it is in many American Mexican restaraunts?

Does real Mexican food use Cilantro? Is it a regional thing like gulf coast vs. pacific?

Cilantro is very diverse with the foods that it is used in. Cilantro can be found in TONS of dishes in Mexico. It's a normal ingredient found in everyday meals. Personally, I think that Mexico uses more cilantro than "Imitating" Mexican restaurants.

Cilantro is a perennial favorite in Mexican cuisine.  So, yes, they use cilantro in mexico.

My family is mexican and the answer is no not always...It is used when it's available and maybe more for nice special dinners...Chilies are used more, my grandma used alot of chilies,cumin and garlic.

Mexico is where I actually acquired a taste for cilantro. It was in the ceviche.
