  1. Listen when it comes to certifications, being certified in a specific application such as citrix metaframe is not as important as learning how to use it. I am MCSE, and CNE and CCNP and those certs provide you with a wider array of options than Citrix or VMware or any other applicaton  that has a niche user base.

Short answer- You can learn about Citrix and get hands on experience and become competent without the classes and cert but you have to do what's important to you. Most jobs that need you to know citrix also need you to know higher level things like Network Operating systems and design.m Good Luck..If you need more info  hit me up ( ebonics for email me)

  2. Certifications are a great way to progress a career in IT. It is best to start with MCP qualifications to understand operating systems such as Windows XP and Vista. Then you need to decide whether you would like to work in a server and PC or networking environment. If the answer is you enjoy Windows and the like, get an MCSE (check on the Microsoft website). Once you have this a Citrix qualification will be easier to obtain.

If you would like to work in the background and understand how computers connect and communicate, check the variety of certifications at www.cisco.com ( a great company).
