  1. A class C amplifier can be, but need not be, a CE (common emitter) amplifier.  Class C amplifiers are used to provide nearly 90% efficiency, particularly where signal distortion is not an issue, but are also used working into tuned circuits that filter out the distortion (as some cost to efficiency).

    Class A amps are center-biased and only 50% efficiency.  Class B amplifiers are biased to cutoff and usually used in push-pull configuration to provide up to 78.5% efficiencies.  Class C are biased past cutoff, amplifying less than 50% of the input signal, but developing up to 90% efficiency as a result.

    All of these aplifiers can be constructed using CE amplifiers.
