I saw a commercial for this new thing to cut your dogs nails, it's called Pedicure or something. And in the commercial they mention that if you use clippers it hits their nerve. Is this true, or should I just stick with the clippers???

  1. not if you do it the right way by not clipping it to close

  2. dog clippers are just fine

that's what i used for my dogs

but i did have an english bulldog that would pass out when he got to excited. so clipping his nails made him pass out

but most dogs aren't like that

  3. No, it's not.  While it is true that improper use of clippers is painful for a dog, using the clippers properly and clipping the appropriate amount of nail is not in any way harmful for a dog.  It is literally JUST like using a pair of fingernail clippers or scissors to trim your own nails.  And while filing a dog's nails with a dremmel type-tool (including the pedicure product advertised in the commercial) can also be a good way to keep your dog's nails trimmed you STILL run the risk of hitting the nerve in the nail and that is at least as painful as clipping it, if not more so.  Imagine the difference between catching your finger on a sharp edge and rug burn...that's the difference between hitting the quick with nail clippers and hitting the quick with a dremmel.

  4. I would stick to the normal clippers that have been used by vets, groomers and owners for years.  Most dogs need this from time to time - especially if they spend a lot of time on grass and not street walking.

  5. The pedicure is just an over priced dremel with a plastic guard around it. And you can still get the dogs kwik the only difference is it's able to categorized it right away if you do happen get the dog. I also think they allow you to get the nails shorter.

  6. People have been clipping dogs nails for years and I've never heard anything about that until Pedicure came out with it's commercial.  They're just trying to get you to buy its product.
