Is closing your checking account because you can't pay the loans anymore classified as check fraud?

If your loan account is linked to that checking account for automatic payments, probably yes. If that's the case, stop the automatic payment and then close the account. Then if you don't pay you will just be delinquent (still a problem) but you won't be committing fraud.
