  1. ya it is an effective source as it produces lotta energy and used in many ways. but i thnk it cannot be the best source of energy

  2. Yes it is.

  3. Yes coal may be in the future the more efficient energy source, this is because coal is too much expensive in our planet

Here are people extracting nuclear energy from coal, this people has discovered they can extract 8 KW for each gram of coal transformed to Borum:

The web site is in spanish, but you can translate.

    Bye

  4. no it is not because i believe it has chemicals that cause the ozone layer to open.

  5. Coal is one of our most used energy sources, but it's also a non-renewable energy source, which means that it is not easy to get. It's also a fossil fuel, which makes it harmful to the environment.

You can read about coal and other energy sources here:

  6. no, there still making carbon dioxide

  7. Yes and no!

Coal can pack alot of energy that is released during burning.  It is however inefficient when talking about transporting long distances to use because of its bulk and weight. This is why most coal fired powerplants are located so close to the mines. It takes alot of energy to remove from the ground.  Strip mining although economical causes obvious environmental damage and removing all of the overburden (non coal covering the coal) takes alot of energy to truck away.  Coal is not very good for the environment since it releases a large amt. of so2 and co2 as well as murcury and other nasty things when burned.  When compared to scources like oil it is probably more efficient when the final destination of coal is close to the mine while it is probably similar to less efficient the further you get from the mine.  When compareed to solar, solar is not as efficient when considering the conversion of light to electricity which is around only 13% but considering once the panels are in place there is virtually no maintnence and no need to truck a fuel around.

  8. Yes.  Coal is an extremely efficient source of energy.  Aside from the fact that it is domestically abundant here in the US, it is among the most affordable and reliable options for producing power. Emissions laws are so stringent on power producing plants (and constantly monitored) that are fueled by coal, that many of them burn clean with relatively no harmful particulates.  There are existing control technologies (filtering) currently used by all electric utilities for sulfur dioxide (SO2), nitrogen oxides (NOx), and other particulate matter that reduce power plant emissions by roughly 40 percent.  Utilities work with the Dept. of Energy constantly testing environments, and new controls options for ozone and acid rain requirements are currently being established.

  9. very much so

  10. yes...that's why they have been using it for hundreds of years.

But it is very polluting...and getting to it can be tough.
