Is codeine addictive and can it make you high?

A friend of mine used to be a drug addict..He's been taking codeine for pain that he says he's been having. I'm starting to think that he's replacing his drugs with codeine..I'm really worried about him and I wanted to know if codeine is addictive and if it can make you high? So if anyone knows the answer please let me know..thank you

yes, codeine is an opiate and i consider opiates one of the most addicting drugs. What ever you do, if he gets his hands on a stronger opiate(oxycontin, oxymorphine, heroin) he will be screwed. These are much stronger and will seriously get him addicted.

He is - if he's even replacing- he may just be adding to his repetiore.  I used to have drug problems.  I have to be very careful with pain killers - I have had 3 major surgeries in 2 years and looking at another- everytime I get so excited about the pain killers and sedatives and stuff - I have to get off of them as soon as I can - infact, I ask the doctors for a synthetic drug that doesn't make me high for when I go home, just to avoid getting hooked again.

Yes codeine is very addictive and alot of drug addicts get hooked on it.  It comes in different forms, like Tylenol 3 or 4.  It gives you this 'loopy' feeling.  

An addict is more prone to get addicted to it and replace their main drug of choice with that one.  

He will have to get weened off the drug.

yes it can get you high and it is fairly addictive.  as a former heroin addict i would classify it as not that addicting, compared to heroin and stronger opiates such as oxycotton.  you have to realize though that it is an opiate and you can become physically addicted to it. although with a weak opiate like codiene you would have to use it very frequently for that to happen.  codeine is a drug... so hes just replacing drugs with other drugs.

h**l yes it can make you high. and it can be addictive. and i'm not some ignorant fool here. i'm talking from experience. friends of mine used to dip their cigarettes in cough syrup containing codeine all the time. my suggestion is he gets off the codeine NOW.
