When I drink brewed coffee, is it homogenous (as in a perfect liquid) or heterogenous (as in I'm drinking small particles of coffee suspended in water)?

What about Instant Coffee?

  1. Brewed coffee is a "solution" so I guess that would make it homogeneous.

But I think that instant coffee is definitely heterogeneous.

  2. i don't know since the grounds stay in the filter.

  3. i think homogeneous for both

  4. I'm pretty sure it's heterogeneous. The coffee particles are unable to achieve a perfect tessellation with the water molecules, which leave them, ultimately, separated. This keeps it from being considered a homogeneous compound. But Google it, I may be incorrect.

    EDIT:

I just looked it up. In the case of brewed coffee, it could be considered a homogeneous compound, being that you are unable to create a standard separation of the coffee from the water. But in the case of instant coffee, which is not brewed, it is a Heterogeneous mixture, because the two compounds (Water and coffee) never actually mix, they merely complement each other.

  5. Yes.  A homogeneous mixture has the same uniform appearance and composition throughout

Instant coffee heterogeneous  It's a mixture thats consists of visibly different substances... Particle size distinguishes homogeneous solutions from other heterogeneous mixtures.
