  1. If the Beer Bread recipe is a  quick bread---leavened by chemical action,  not yeast---using Coke  (or other sweetened soft drink)  is OK.  Of course,  the flavor will be much sweeter than the recipe's  creator intended.

If the recipe is a yeast bread,  don't use a sweetened soft drink;  the additional sugar will s***w up the rising process of the dough.

  2. If it's a beer bread mix you can use pretty much any carbonated beverage in it.  It will be sweeter than regular beer bread, but it should come out ok.  If you are not using a mix then I'm not sure, since I've only ever made beer bread with a box mix.

  3. I wouldn't go that far but you can use a lemon lime soda - here's a bread recipe:

    No YEAST BREAD

    2 1/2 c self-rising flour

    3 tb white sugar

1 12 oz can of carbonated lemon-lime soda

To begin, preheat the oven to 350 degrees and grease a 9x5 inch loaf pan. Next, Combine the flour, sugar and soda. Put the mixture in the greased pan. Bake the mixture for 45 minutes.

*If the soda you use contains sugar, lessen the amount of sugar used in the recipe.

No Self Rising Flour? - 2TBS Baking powder & 1 teaspoon salt added to 3 Cups flour (can leave out the salt)

    Scottish Coke Bread

    2 cups all-purpose flour

    1 cup old fashioned oats

    1/2 cup sugar

    2 1/2 teaspoons baking powder

    1/2 teaspoon baking soda

    1 teaspoon salt

    1 egg

    3 tablespoons shortening, melted

    1/2 teaspoon vanilla extract

    8 fluid ounces Coke

1 cup prune, very well drained and coarsely chopped or 1/2 cup dried prune

    1/2 cup chopped walnuts

    Directions

1  In a large bowl, stir together the flour, rolled oats, sugar, baking powder, baking soda, and salt.

2  In another bowl, beat with a fork, the egg, shortening, and vanilla extract until well blended; add to the flour mixture.

3  Add the Coke, prunes, and nuts; blend thoroughly with a spoon.

4  Turn into a well-greased, lightly floured, 9x5x3-inch loaf pan.

5  Bake in a preheated, 350°F oven for about 1 hour or until a wooden toothpick inserted in the center comes out clean.

6  Cool on a rack for 20 minutes before removing the bread from the pan.

7  Store in foil overnight before slicing.

Seems this has been asked before at yahoo - here's the answers::

  4. Coke, beer and a little weed while you're at it.  Party!

  5. I've done it with club soda and a little sugar, and it turned out fine.  My only concern is that you'll need to reduce the sugar, otherwise you'll run the risk of over-feeding the yeast (if it's a yeast-based bread) and it will overpuff and get enormous bubbles in it.
