  1. personally, i feel that gard & marching band are more demanding than football. i call my students athletes in artistry!

i defy any "athlete" to play & march a flawless 7-10 minute field show,...i know why these kids are winded when they come off the field!

  2. Yes it definatly is!  That's why in winter guard it is refered to "sport of the arts"  i only think it counts as a sport when in competition though. definition of a sport - "Physical activity that is governed by a set of rules or customs and often engaged in competitively. "  so when in competition it is but when just performing in a non competitive way it is just a physical activity just like cheerleading, ice scating, dancing, and gymnastics.  All these sports are judged rather than competing one on one so they are performance sports.

  3. no its an extracurricular activity

  4. no.

i'm in marching band & winterguard, and i don't count them as sports.

    they are Competitions.

we compete against hundreds of different schools, and we get either 1st place, or some other place like 12th place or something. lol

but in sports, you play against one other team, and you are either the winner, or the loser.

if you consider band & colorguard & winterguard a sport......you'd also have to say cheerleading a sport. which it ISN'T.

band, guard, and cheerleading are competitions, not sports.

BUT, i do agree that it is physically demanding to march from sunup to sundown, while playing music, and focusing on your steps, and all that. but i just can't call it a sport.

but i love band & guard with everything in me! you have no idea!
