I am thinking about upgrading to HD from comcast from basic cable, but i have over 15 digital broadcasts (the HD is very good, standard, ok) over the air in my area. The free HD broadcasts are very clear, like computer monitor clear, so is it worth upgrading and paying $8 a month more for the same or worse picture?

  1. I can't see the quality of Comcast in your area, however, playing the odds, Over The Air would probably look much better.  Most cable companies must compress the signals to make room for more channels on their systems.  Compression reduces resolution.

  2. No, not at all. Comcast is "forced" to compress their signal due to bandwidth restrictions (meaning they are too cheap to invest in putting out a quality high def signal without stripping channels). The signal from your local stations is not nearly as compressed, therefore the quality is MUCH higher.

Comcast is trash, end of story.
