I have a little Mr. Fix it business on the side and I carry a few tools in my SUV. I'm thinking of getting a commercial car policy. Will it be more not less expensive than personal and how much more?

  1. Good question.

A site I've recommended in the past would be...

    http://insurance.deal4-you.com

    Hope that helps.

  2. It will be significantly more, but the only way to know how much is to price companies in your area for the coverage you need.  But if you are working and you have an accident, your personal insurance does not have to cover you.  I would get a policy, and you might want one for the business as well.

  5. welllll that doesn't much expensive .

since personal  policy is less but this is a commodity one insurance i.e non-living things soo u decide wht to do

  6. For one car, service use class which is what you are talking about, yes, it is more expensive.  Also, the vehicle will have to be retitled to your corporation or business name, NOT your personal name.

See, for years, some people were trying to get around surcharges on their personal auto policies by declaring a "business" and trying to put the car on a commercial policy.  So, the insurance companies then required that the business be REAL, ie, a corporation or some such.  AND, they still underwrite the drivers.  If you have a bad driving record, you're not going to find someone to take you on, except maybe  Progressive.

There are way too many variables to give you a quote.    But yes, likely ONE vehicle will be MUCH more expensive on a commercial policy than a personal one.  Assuming it's not a dump truck or the like.
