I am a competitive cheerleade, and have been fighting with people since i've started about cheerleading being a sport. I obviously consider it a sport, but would like to know what other people think and why.

  1. yes it is.  Its always on ESPN and stuff.  There are all star teams and college teams that compete.  The all start teams are for people not in college.  Its a great experience to compete!

  2. Of course! It is just as much hard work as any other sport, and just because we're throwing people instead of footballs doesnt mean it isnt!

  3. it really is.  i know that when people go to bball games for football games or whatever; all they see really is some preppy girls jumping around and being obnoxious.  but, in competitions, it's something else.  it's so thrilling being in front of soooo many people lifting girls that weigh as much, or a little less than you.  and the sport is so freaking physical!!  you have to be able to dance well with others (ie, be on time with music&the girls/boys) and you have to stunt as well, so you're either up, ten feet in the air, holding a 110+ girl up in the air, or fronting/backing and holding ankles and knees.  i mean, what doesn't sound hard about that?!?!

  4. no

  5. Yes, it is.

I plan so many sports, but honestly, cheerleading was the most difficult. A lot of people think of bimbos running around screaming 'rah rah' when some one says cheerleading but, god d**n, I've never seen that ouside of a cheesy movie.

  6. It absolutely is!..I have had trouble with people about it too..I argue with almost EVERYONE about it...I will be 100% honest and say that I don't think that cheering on the sidelines at football and basketball games is a sport...but cheering at competitions is..I've cheered for 8 years and I get c**p about it all the time..hope I helped!! =]

  7. No.

  8. Yes.

  9. It depends on what you consider a sport.  In my view, competitive cheerleading is a sport, because it is a physical activity that is done competitively.

  10. No.

    Cheerleading is stupid. :p

    Sorry.

    Go team!

  11. yea

  12. miss . i am in my 60s . did play pro-sports for many seasons . cheer leaders are more gifted atheletes , than the players they cheer for . not only more physically gifted . more intellinge , since thier practices are longer , more intense . than other sports . players on the field , have teammates to cover errors . the cheer team the smallest misstime , could cause serious injury to participants . no room for error . it is definatly a hard demanding sport . those who cant rant . ignore the boors . you are above them . good luck

  13. Yes... All the guys say no cause all they think about is foot ball ect. So if you  are trying to prove a point, then yes, yes it is.

I think the definition of a sport is having to use skill. There has to be rules and someone ( or team) has to win. Tt takes hard work to be a good cheerleader , as it does in any other sport.
