Is confusing short term warming with climate change a simple mistake or dishonesty?

Look at this graph from Englands Met Office, Hadley Center.

http://environmentaldefenseblogs.org/climate411/2008/02/27/cold_january/

The climate has been above average for only 30 years, and just 0.5 degs above. In the previous 130 years, the climate was below average by at least 0.5 degs.

30 years is just a blink of the eye in the time span of the Earth.

Is this bounce up just the climate returning to normal after 130 cold years and are "scientist" just being dishonest by saying man is the cause for this warming?

After all, it had to be warmer sometine in the past to put the average higher than the 130 years befor this current warm spell, right?

  1. I agree - We are still coming off an ice age - I think the global warming alarmists fail to look at the whole history of the earths temperature - Wasn't it really hot when the dinosaurs were around?  They fail to see the natural fluctuations of the earths temp.

  2. Yes and most of the thermometers of old times were not that accurate.

It is dishonesty as they think U are burning more oil than is our far share.

it is all a scam but it has backfired as the oil CO. have made billions.

It is making it hard for the poor ,they can have there oil to transport them to the Dr. but then can not afford the medicine.

Our present depression is related to the cost of oil.

  3. I thought that you wanted us to believe that global warming stopped in 1998....

And now you want us to believe that it stopped in 2008. Were you wrong then or are you wrong now?

To answer your question, confusing climate and weather might be a simple mistake if someone does it once, but it is dishonesty if that person does it again and again and again, especially if the definitions have been easily defined in their native language.

  4. They (global warming alarmists) want proof that the sun is warming them up.  I wonder what they think causes all of that cooling when the sun goes down?

See, they are confused with their own misinformation.

  5. so you are admitting that the earth is warming? remember climate is the long term trend.

" if the past 130 years were below average by at least 0.5 degs and the past 30 years, and just 0.5 degs above."

climate dose bounce up and down but over thousands and thousands of years not hundreds. if its been warming for 160 years what could be causing this? its not the sun solar output has not varied by any measurable amounts and anyhow the cycles are not sustained for long enough to have a great effect on climate.

BTW its graph is zeroed on the average from 1961 and 1990 but with data from 1880. because the earth has been warming this temp is higher then the average over the whole data set.

  6. I don't know Bob...ummmm...I mean Jello....both sides do it and it drives me nuts. A harsh winter or a warm summer mean nothing to prove or disprove AGW. I guess we will all see where it leads over the next decade or so....

Don't ya hate it when people mention the holes in the ozone too.

  7. Absolutely one of your best questions, with excellent data.

The short answer is that 30 years (as opposed to the past few months) is long term climate.

The long answer is that the trend upward of the last 30 years shows absolutely no sign of leveling off, of "returning to normal".

Simple physics of CO2 shows why.  And it shows, that if we continue to emit ever increasing amounts of CO2, temperature will continue to rise to the point of severe damage to our advanced civilization.

there's a reason for all the fuss about this, and it's not some conspiracy, or a massive blunder by most all the scientists in the world.

    Great question, honestly.
