Say you fly from China to USA with a connection in Japan. If signs are in Japanese and English and you can only read Chinese, how do you find your connecting flight? Also, if if your flights are multiple airlines, do you have to move your luggage?

  1. Well normally the signs are in many languages, so chinese may be included.

But either way, there are also multi lingual people around that can point you in the right direction.

As far as your luggage, almost all airlines have baggage agreements which allow bags to be transfered without rechecking. It would be very unlikey that you would have to re-check your bags, but when you check in for your first flight they will let you know.

  2. I was at Tokyo Airport back in Dec and I honestly don't recall seeing any signs in Chinese, only in English and Japanese... but the people there at the information desk, im sure someone there might speak Chinese.

I've traveled all around and never had issues with connecting in another country.  They have pictures as well which is easy to associate what they are talking about... i just hope someone would have the common sense that if they saw an arrow pointing right with a sign for luggage when you arrive, you would understand that the means this way to pick up your luggage.  But I could be wrong.

  3. The airport signs will be in multiple languages and that won't be a problem.  The airline and airport staff will also speak multiple languages (including English).

You don't have to re-check your bags.  Just make sure the airline agent at the first airport tags the bags so they go to your final destination.  That is true even if you change airlines.

All major airports have websites with maps and info on shops, restaurants, cafes, and things to do. Check for the airports you expect to visit.

hope you have a good trip!
