Question:

Is controlling a small regional jet easier compared to a larger jet like 737 / a320?

Comparing Embraer ERJ-145 for example vs a 737. Which aircraft will be easier to handle in a stall, heavy turbulence, and engine failure??

Naturally, I feel that a smaller aircraft is more manuevarable but then less stable than a bigger jet.

  1. same thing, just bigger, and you have to remember the space needed for turns, at least its not a c5a

  2. FYI:  We stall our learjets during training... bring it back to the stick shaker at 10,000'... then T/O thrust and keep the nose at 12 degrees and it'll power itself out losing less than 200' feet (much less if it's done well).

I have heard very bad things about stalling other swept wing aircraft though.

  3. The things that make a jet airplane trickier to fly than, say, a Cessna 172 tend to affect all jets about the same.  Hope you don't get mixed up in a stall situation in a jet airplane of any size.

So there is not much difference between the regional or the bizjet and a full-size airliner.

Oh, and good pilots make rough landings in 747s every day.  Just stick around.  Bring your camcorder.

  4. a 737 as it has auto pilot but an Erj 175 does 2. so they would be the same. But in an emergency the 737 would be easier to control because it is harder to lose control. also, an the E-series jets don't have atomatic stabilization which means that when you let go of the controls it will atomatically stabilize even if it  is is almost upside down.

PS i love all aircraft and airlines and would like to start one after College.

  5. They are essentially the same...you really don't want to stall either one.  It also depends upon the weight, fuel load, etc.

  6. it is just the same just u have to remember the size of the aircraft and the space it needs and the stress points

  7. The bigger they are the easier to fly. Can't do a bad landing in a 747.
