  1. For personal use, I think it is no problem. I recently use a tool for backup DVD named Pavtube DVD Copy. It is ok to burn DVD to DVD. I have copied several DVD movies. The quality is good regardless of the sound, picture. Besides, the software can copy DVD disc to hard drive to backup your DVD movie disc to your PC. So I have no trouble to see the film with a DVD player. Of course I also can copy the DVD movies to a blank disc with it and give the copied DVD movies disc to my relatives and friends. Therefore, they can see the popular movies without buying them. This is a really good tool. Everybody can have a try. They have the trial version without any limitation in the function even the watermark. You can use it for five times within the first month. Here is the link:

  2. everyone says its illegal, but here is my opinion. The copyright law protects people from taking someone else's work and profiting from it. But if you are making a copy for your own use i don't see anything wrong with it. Lets say you copy your friends dvd cause you really want it, then yes it's illegal cause you are taking away the amount that you would have bought that dvd for. So it is illegal, but in some circumstances it is not.

  3. Well speeding is illegal also but everyone does it.  You are not suppose to copy movies the purpose of most of those programs where you can burn dvd's is to back up current copies that you bought.

  4. Technically, since copying a DVD requires the circumvention of the CSS encryption algorithm and possibly any auxiliary copy protection scheme such as Sony Arcos, such copying might be contrary to copyright laws in your area, such as the United States Digital Millennium Copyright Act.

Despite this, if your intent of copying falls under the guideline of fair use (personal archival where you still own the original but desire to use a copy within the context of private home use to protect the original from risk of damage), then it's perfectly okay.

  5. Legally, the person who owns the DVD is allowed to make one copy for archival purposes.  Only it has to stay in the possession of the owner. But in reality, a lot of people burn DVD's and the police don't come knocking down there door. I wouldn't worry about it to much,

  6. I think it says so at the beginning of the movie.....

I think it's like any other type of media (software, games, etc.):

The owner can make as many "backup" copies as he wants.....but cannot sell them or give them to anyone.

  7. I dont beleive that making a copy for yourself of that dvd is illegal.  It isnt for cd's anyway.  In the law it states that you can make so called back up copies of your disks.  As long as you do not distribute the disk to anyone else or sell it is it illegal.

  8. Yes making copies without permission or consent from the studios that produced the movies is against Federal law, which means it's illegal in all 50 states and wherever else it applies to. So yes, it is illegal. I you want the movie, call up the studio and ask for permission, or just go out and buy the movie yourself.
