  1. Technically, Yes it is.

It's unlikely you'll be charged unless you distribute the copy in any way though .

  2. yes, it's called pyracy.

  3. who cares, you never get caught and ain't no policemen out there will come after you over copy dvd's they have better things to do

  4. It's the selling of copied DVD's thats illegal, other than that, everything else that others have already said, is true.

  5. Usually no. Most companies allow you to copy optical media for backup purposes.

Microsoft in particular usually prohibits copying optical media, but thus far there is always an exception for backup purposes.

  6. from what i understand the owner is allow to burn one backup copy for personal use  but it can not be sold or given to someone else, it must remain in the owners possession.   or so i think.

  7. IS COPYING DVD against the law? FOR THE PURPOSE OF PROFIT AND SALE YES IT IS FORBIDDEN TO COPY and sale but if only for backup purposes or personal use and not for public viewing then it is allowable.

  8. No. Making backup copies for your own personal use (in case the original wears out or gets damaged) is legally considered "fair use". Mind you, production companies and their lawyers would love to be able to stop even this sort of copying and make you have to buy another DVD to replace it.

  9. It is against the law to make a copy to sell or distribute.

But if you want to make a backup copy for your own use, the FBI is not going to come looking for you.

  10. As stupid as it is, yes.  The Digital Millennium Copyright Act eliminates any "fair use" copying.  You probably won't get caught, but it IS against the law.

  11. If  you already purchased the DVD its not against the law.
