  1. The word corn was used to refer to any grain prior to the Columbian exchange, so old cookbooks from various places in Europe will use the word.  But corn as in corn-on-the-cob is native to the Americas (as are tomatoes, chocolate, and a bunch of other stuff.)


  2. No.  Corn is native to mesoamerica, then spread to the American continents.  It wasn't introduced elswhere until the late 15th century.
