Apparently "corporal punishment" (aka, "paddling") still legal 21 states. I'd like to know if TN is one of them. No teacher will lay a hand on MY child without getting a fight from me!

  1. Yes it is.

"Any teacher or school principal may use corporal punishment in a reasonable manner against any pupil for good cause in order to maintain discipline and order within the public schools."

  2. yes is ones of states that is still allowed to practice corporal punishment. I feel that corporal punishment is still allowed in any state or country.

  3. I'm from Alabama and even though it is still legal here, I have yet to know of any school actually using it.  I believe corporal punishment is still technically legal in most of the southern states.  Check with the school to see if they use it.  If the school uses it they usually send home a permission form for you to sign if you agree to the use of corporal punishment.  Without a signed consent form and details of what procedures to follow they won't paddle your child.  It became such a hassle because most parents wanted to be notified first that the schools just said the heck with it and dropped it altogether.

Personally I'm glad they don't because I had the misfortune of having several teachers who abused their authority through paddlings.  It led to deep mistrust of teachers in general.  It's hard to really warm up to someone if there's a possibility they will hit you with a board somewhere down the road.
