  1. Mono- and diglycerides may be of either animal or plant sources, so you have to make you own call when you see that one (or find a loaf that doesn't have these dough conditioners.)

As a general rule, anything with the prefix stear- is animal-derived (or at least could be.)

If you look hard enough, you should be able to find bread made with only recognizable ingredients.

  2. sodium stearoyl lactylate - may or may not be vegan

diacetyl tartaric acid - pretty sure its vegan

mono and diglycerides may or may not be vegan

if I were you I would go ahead and eat it..because it probably is vegan..you just don't know for 100% sure....if you are really that worried about it call the number on the box and ask them. Hope that helps!

  3. Sodium stearoyl lactylate is not vegan and sometimes gives stomach problems to those who are lactose-intolerant.

The other ingredient is often shortened to DATEM and is a tricky one.  Some resources say that it's vegan and others say that it isn't.

    No, your bread's not vegan.

  4. If something is vegan, it usually says it on the package. You could also look on the internet for a list of vegan foods. I think the PETA website might have one.

  5. Both of those ingredients supposedly may or may not be vegan. Whenever I come across those ingredients, I contact the company that makes the product, and every time I've done that, they've turned out to be vegan. If you really want to be sure, contact the company, but based on my experiences, I think it's safe to eat it
