Somewhat...I am a craigslist user, and If you use it right it is gold.  Only deal locally, and with cash.  Never listen to any B.S. about a private shipper coming to pick you stuff up.  Never accept money orders, checks and definetedly not Western Union.  As I said ONLY DEAL LOCALLY.  If you are a buyer don't go alone just in case a wierdo is just trying to draw you in.  What it has over ebay is that it is free, and you can also advertise other stuff like garage sales and such.  HERE IS AN EXAMPLE OF A SCAM:

Hello, Am instrested in your item and i will like to know the condition of the item, moreover i will be shipping it to rhode island to execute some contract,i as well have a shipping company that will handle this for me, they are located in the states, so i will be making the payment through cashier check or money order and i will include the shipping cost in the check, so you will help to transfer the shipping fund as soon as the check clears for immediate pick up.thanks and get back to me if you we can work this out.i am a serious buyer ,mail me some picture.

For the most part, but be wary of the scams. There are a lot of them on there.

Depends.  In NYC  5 different people were robbed and assaulted when answering car for sale ads.  This gang had it all set up.  Not a month later the New York Post ran a story about people cheated out of 1 months rent and 1 months security by fraudulent apt brokers who had listed with craig.  Buyer beware

yupp. my house went on fire in 06. nd i was looking on craiglist for how ever long. now i found a house on craiglist nd im livin in it for four months now. craiglist is reliable .
