Is creating a Yahoo group an appropriate way to share tasks, appts, and phone #'s just among family members?

if you limit the group to only family members- yes, it's  great place to do all those things but the minute you allow a member to join that you don't know, your opening the door for miss-use of that info like phone numbers

That would work but keep it private!

I have my own private one-person Yahoo group that no one knows about except me. I keep lists of things I need to do, things I need to get rid of and I am organizing my closet via my little group. I also send articles to my group so that I know where to find them.

My group doesn't give me any problems!

it most certainly is.  It's a great place to share photos and info as to what's going on in the family.
