Question:

Is custom fitting worth it?

I've seen many custom fitting services are offered these days. I checked at the nearby custom fitter that it will cost me a hundred and fifty bucks to get my swing analyzed. Is it worth it? What do you think about the cost?

  1. It is absolutely worth it.  Anything that is custom tailored for you is going to be an improvement.  Ping has a great custom fitting system that comes with a set and most big manufacturers are starting to do it.  If you're serious about improving your game and your below about a 10 handicap it will make a positive difference.

  2. if you hav a lot of money and are a serious golfer. I think Ping analise you swing for free if you buy a set of their clubs and pings from my experience are great clubs.

  3. I think the custom fitter has been trained to do the best he can to improve your skills and technique. He's trying to make a living and this is part of it.  How serious are you about the sport?

  4. I'd definitely do some comparison shopping.  $150 to get your swing analyzed? Seems way overpriced just to have someone analyze your swing.  Does this price include adjustments to your clubs?

I'd check some other pro shops or golf stores like Golf Galaxy if you have one in your area.

  5. I think I got that free when I bought the clubs.  I would shop around.  Be careful though, you get what you pay for.

  6. Lots of places will give you a free custom fitting for new clubs, not just Ping and Titleist retailers. If you're looking to have your swing analyzed and your current clubs adjusted, you're going to have to pay. That's just the way it is.

If you're more than a once a month golfer, it's totally worth getting your clubs custom fitted. Ill-fitted clubs can send the ball left, right, too high or too low, and can make your ball flight inconsistent.

And custom fitting is definitely NOT just for good players. In fact, most high handicap players benefit more from custom fitting than better players. It makes it much easier for bad players to isolate and fix their swing problems if their clubs are not holding them back.

Anyway, if you're buying new clubs, there's absolutely no reason NOT to get your clubs custom fit unless you're buying them off the discount rack at Walmart. In fact, I'd suggest you look into custom clubs instead of the major brands. They cost the same or less than any of the big manufacturers, yet are tailored to you better than is possible with any of the big boys.

If you're looking to have your current clubs adjusted, I'd shop around. $150 sounds like a but much to me.

  7. Ping and Titleist typically offer these services gratis with purchase of a set of irons.

Try a big-box golf retailer and see what they can offer.
