Is cycling allowed on Clearways?

george d, I would prefer the footpath rather than road too.

Unfortunately the police in London give out penalty tickets for using a bicycle anywhere except the road.

  1. Cycling should NOT be allowed on any road anywhere. Sorry.

    A clearway (UK) is a road where no stopping is allowed at any time, some have restrictions posted as to the type of traffic allowed , or not. One of the restrictions usually imposed is that vehicles have to be able to maintain a constant speed - usually 30mph, so that precludes cyclists & farm traffic from a lot of them. Why any sane person would want to ride a push bike & "mix it " with fast moving traffic is beyond me, as they are extremely vunerable, slow moving victims to trailers cutting in after passing them. It makes me nervous when passing them in case one gets dragged under the wheels by the trailer "slipstream"


  2. In the UK it's fine to cycle on a clearway, but I wouldn't advise you tried a motorway.
