  1. I do not agree.  Here's my definition of a sport:  In order to qualify as a sport, an activity must meet 2 requirements.

    A. The outcome of an activity must be decided objectively.

    B. There must be a fitness requirement.

Criterion A excludes all activities involving judging, one of which is dancing.

Criterion B excludes all activities which don't require peak physical condition in order to complete.  This excludes golf and race car driving.

According to my definition, dance is not a sport, but a recreational activity.  Not being a sport doesn't mean that it doesn't require talent or physical strength.  It just means that it doesn't fit the above definition.

  2. ARE YOU KIDDING!!!!!! Dance takes twice as much effort as most sports. I play about 5 sports and yeah, i'm tired after all of them. But after dance i am tired and i feel stretched and flexible and really sweaty. Ok so in dance you don't need to know how to throw a ball. But you do need perseverance, memory, flexiblity, grace, and most of all passion. So if anyone tries to tell you that dance isn't a sport , just know that having all your dance mussles you can most lilkely kick their butt!!!!! So yes DANCE IS A SPORT!!!!!!

  3. Dance is for sure a sport!

I am also a dancer, i do ballet and recently completed a two week intensive, everyday for 7 hours. That is as much or more training of that of an athlete of any other sport. Dance requires so much mentally and physically, and it is one of the most beautiful art forms. Dancing is most definetely a sport, a dancer works just as hard as any other athlete.

  4. Dancing is an art. If you don't believe it watch those who really know how to dance. It may feel like a contact sport when you get onto a dance floor occupied by too many novices and " showboats".

  5. COMPETITIVE dance is a sport.  It is a competition in which the outcome depends on the competitor's athletic physical skills.

Dancing for performance, or as a hobby, is not a sport.  It's an art, and it is often a very difficult and physically-demanding art which I think very highly of, more difficult than many sports!  Still, for me to call an activity a "sport," it would have to involve competition.

Some non-sporting activities are more physically demanding than some sports.  Keep in mind, defining a "sport" does not have anything to do with the difficulty level; it simply has to do with the element of competition.  So, when I say that non-competitive dance is not a sport, that's not said with the intent of putting down dance in any way.

  6. I definately thinks it is a sport. Its a combination of both art and sport or as the quote says "It takes an athlete to dance, but an artist to be a dancer."
