  1. you wish to determine what to call it when trees are removed from a landscape repeatedly.  this action is not a one-time event, but one committed over and over again to have the unfortunate impact that it does on our ecosystems.

as forests are removed, wildlife loses its habitat and must relocate or die.  predators and prey are disrupted, affecting neighboring land as well.  erosion takes place, dumping sediment into streams that flow through the deforested land.  this changes the quality and temperature of the water that eventually works its way into the sea as well as our homes.

for something to work on so 'great' a scale (i use the term loosely) i'd define it as a practice, not just a one time activity.  it's a practice we need to get out of the practice of doing.

  2. Neither, its a consequence.

  3. Practice- Deforestation occurs when forests are cut on a regular basis to clear space for cultivation, grazing, settlement, or when firewood or building materials are needed.

  4. Cutting down A tree is an activity.

Cutting down ALL trees is a practice.

When individuals do something it is an activity, when an entire society believes an activity is necessary and everyone does it, when it becomes "acceptable", then it becomes a practice.

    Deforestation is a practice.

  5. i think it would be an act[tivity], not a practice. an activity is a specific deed, action, function, or sphere of action; while a practice is the action or process of performing or doing something.
