Is democracy really in control?

I know there are many conspiracies, but I'm beginning to wonder if we are really in control. I'm beginning to believe that elections may be fraud. There is a winner before we even choose. The media may destroy a candidate before he even has a chance. For example Mc Cain might not stand a chance against Hilary, so they put Obama there to destroy Hilary, but now Mc Cain has the upper edge. I'm questioning if this still a democracy or is everyone blinded by the media. Are we really in control?
