Question:

Is depression legally considered a disability in New Zealand?

I am in the process of going through my insurance stuff, and happened upon the life insurance bit about temporary or permanent disabilities.

It's very vague, and leaves me wondering whether my depression now makes me disabled.

Would anyone know?

Where could I find out about this?

  1. You should contact the NZ Ministry of Health at

    <contactus@mentalhealth.org.nz>,

    or call:  0800 111 757

  2. I would check out the definition of 'depression' through the NZ ACC website, as they would probably be paying out anyhow.

I'm a bit out of touch with NZ medical stuff, but I guess you may have to be diagnosed with bi-polar or something like that.
