  1. Diamond is a mineral.
    It is a polymorph of the element carbon. Yet it's not really an element (otherwise it would be on the periodic table) or a compound or mixture. It is a crystalline form of carbon. It's not a compound because a compound has to be made up of two or more elements and then could not be a mixture as a mixture is made up of compounds.
