Question:

Is dining-out over-rated???

I enjoy an excellent meal as the next person but I enjoy making my own meals. I enjoy looking up recipes and work on them on my own and this is more enjoyable & flavorful than dining out.

On Mothers Day, my cousin & I prepared dinners for our Mom's at his house and it was better than waiting 1.5 hours to be seated, a huge bill and a meal that can be such as good or better at home.

So....isn't dining out over-rated? I love certain meals at particular restaurants but its not something that has to be done on a regular basis.

  1. The benefit of dining out is YOU aren't cooking, setting up the table, clearing the table or doing the dishes - more goes into the cost than just the food.  Then there's the ambience, provided you choose a place to your liking.

Obviously, eating at home should be done most of the time.  Dining out should be only for special occasions.

  2. I totally agree with you about cooking at home, I personally love to cook. I do however have to say that sometimes you just want to go out and have a night out with friends, family or that special someone. It can be as equally satisfying to have a good meal out, especially knowing that there is nothing to clean up after the meal. Eating out can be expensive, but once or twice a month is totally acceptable and budget friendly as long as those two times a month aren't at a five diamond restaurant. So for the short answer, I don't think that dining out is over rated.

  3. I guess for those who ENJOY cooking, it is over rated!?

Like you, I throughly LOVE to cook, and am thrilled when someone appreciates my efforts.

But I also get a lot of super ideas from dining out...and have a knack for tasting something once, and being able to imitate it.  So when my honey says, "I am in the mood for ____ from ___" I can make it at home and surprise him!  :O)

Plus, it's not always just the food...it's the ambience of a restaurant, the atmosphere.  :O)

  4. Yes it is. I love to cook too. But after working all day, sometimes I hate it. I even get sick of eating out. For the same reasons you said.

It's to the point that eating out is a luxury. And for example, Mother's Day, that was a day to be able to show Mom that "hey, I can afford to take you out!".

It's sad to say, but the new generation is lazy. Not to be critical, but they are. I work as a waitress, and the new young waitresses do not know common sense about food. When you tell them something, they look at you like you're stupid. Just because not everybody likes it their way, then it's wrong.

  5. nooo

    i love dining out:]

  6. Heaven's no......

    Dining out is never over-rated.

  7. Oh the joys of wanting to shop, cook, serve, and clean up.

I'm actually joking there, I do like to cook and have enjoyed many meals at home BUT there is something special about going with friends or family to a restaurant and not having to be concerned with anything except having a good time and having a delightful meal.

I put on condition on going out.  It is better to stay in on the big holidays unless you have the first seating when everything is fresh and clean.  Even the best restaurant is not at it's very best on a holiday dinner night, the staff are tired and want to be home with their families and so the experience will be less than satisfactory.  I'm glad you and yours had a good dinner at home for Mother's day and am glad you like to cook.  Keep up the good work

  8. i like dining out however, it is overrated.  i prefer a home cooked meal any day!!!

  9. i love cooking too. specially in the week ends..with a glass of fine wine, good music, good conversation , good mood, good company....... if some one brings a flowering plant..its better.
