Is dog racing and horse racing inhumane?

I am a fan of both events but I do realize that it is quite unnatural for dogs and horses to be in that type of environment and racing for humans. I have also seen pictures of gruesome cases of mistreatment of dogs at the track.

  1. in my opinion on horse racing it depends on the horse's care and what precautions are taken to make sure injury doesn't happen. If an owner races a horse before it's bones are mature it could cause injury more easily and the horse could go lame...and definatly will be stiff at old age. However, if the horse's bones are matured, there is a much smaller risk involed. In order for a horse to win the Triple Crown (The Kentucky Derby, Preakness, and Belmont Steaks) a horse can only be a 3 year old, therefore, the horses that race in these three races are still colts and fillies. And I haven't heard of very many horses that are older than that racing.

I don't know much about dog racing, but from what I can see its perfectly fine. The dogs seem to enjoy it...theres no jockey on their back to direct them, so they probably have a treat at the end.
