Some people say it has tons of germs. But I want to know if double dipping a chip (or double dipping anything for this matter) into a public bowl of something is really all that bad.

  1. The human mouth has a ridiculous number of bacteria normally.  Everything that person has eaten and not brushed off is now growing and growing as plaque in there.  One small tooth or gum infection can be growing tons of pathogens in their mouth.  That is why a human bite can be so deadly and easily infected.

If a person double dips, and even a couple bacteria that are bad get into the dip, the dip being a perfect breeding ground, especially as it warms up closer to room tempurature, and being full of nutrients, bacteria can grow pretty quickly into colonies that you won't smell, taste or see.  Then, everyone at the party will eat them.

Not saying it will always happen, but it can happen, and groups of people have gotten sick.  It's called Common Vehicle (the dip).  Even if you don't get sick, do you really want to think about eating anyone else's plaque and yeast spores?  Tell them to single dip!

  2. yeah it spreads 10,000 germs from but if u double dip you may as well triple dip because it spreads about 10,000 germs as well

  3. Depends on whether or not they have washed their hands after the restroom and how much they DROOL!

  4. bring your own dip next time.

  5. It transfers a number of germs.  While most are not harmful, some can be.  Here's a simple test: if you wouldn't kiss everyone at a party, don't double dip.

  6. I don't mind.  If there are any germs, then the other person seems to be doing just fine with them.  So why not me?

As long as they're not putting gobs of slobber or something in the dip.  I want to dip my chip in the dip, not the slobber.
