Is double touch legal in tennis?

While playing, my opponent swung the bat and the ball hit twice in his bat. he didnt do it intentionally. so we stop and replayed the point. Is double touch legal in tennis?

  1. As Bobby said, it is legal as long as it is one continual motion.  The fact you noticed it was a double touch, means that wouldn't have been the case and you should have won the point.


  2. Despite the first answer, it is legal if not done with two distinct motions and not intentionally.   Years ago it was not legal, but this rule was changed.

    Edit:  Search for "ITF rules of tennis"     Rule 24 f   says that it is a good return (double hit) if not intentional.

  3. You can't double touch in tennis. It'll never happen, not even in 1,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,00... years. =)

  4. A double-touch is NOT legal in tennis.  You won the point the instant your opponent's racquet touched the ball a second time. You didn't even have to re-play the point.  Next time you'll know. :)

  5. I somewhat agree with Bobby. If not done intentionally then it is ok provided they aren't 2 distinct hits. There seems to be some controversy regarding this issue though.
