Is driving a rear wheel drive car (2002 Linoln LS) difficult to drive in winter?

  1. Why would it be?  Too many people with FWD really think it is so much better, but, it isn't.  A FWD car will get a little better grip in slippery conditions starting uphill, given the proper tires, but that is about it.  There is a reason most police vehicles are RWD, and that is the better balance.  Combine that with traction control, the proper tires, and proper driver training, and RWD cars are just as good as FWD. Remember, up until a few years back, all our cars were rear wheel drive, and it is coming back.  Several new vehicles, the newest being the G8 Pontiac are rear wheel drive.


  2. No.  I grew up on RWD.  They get extremely difficult if they have limited slip / positraction type of differentials.

    With limited slip + wet pavement / snow it is almost impossible to drive straight.
