  1. It  can  be.

Bu t  in  some  cases  it's  not.   Like  if    you  are  going  up  a  slight  hill  etc.  it  wouldn't  be....

But  if  you  are  going  downhill  and  you  change  into  a  higher  gear,  yes....

  2. all depends on the engine type and gearing, but broadly speaking slower in a higher gear saves fuel as long as the engine isn't 'chugging'

  3. i was always taught to go into 4th at 30. Unless you're using a diesel where it's different. Definitely more fuel efficient.

  4. I would agree that driving the highest gear appropriate to the speed of the car is more fuel efficient but one needs to change down on inclines.

  5. Depending on the situation if there is a hill ect.

Best to keep the engine below 2000--2500 revs.

One can drive in a high gear all the time but this is false enonamy as the repair bills will out wiegh the fule savings.

Drive diesal cars below 1500cc for best mpg

  6. only way to gain more mpg is not to labour the engine in any gear...

  7. Each vehicle is slightly different.  The way to be more fuel efficient (and kinder to your vehicle) is to change gear when needed.

You shouldn't change gear too early (which you will feel with the lack of power), and shouldn't change too late (the car will 'cry' for a gear change, as well as feeling the car struggle).

  8. the higher the revs, the lower the engine life, the lower the revs ,the higher the carbon build up,get that bit in the middle and it becomes fuel efficent.........have fun.

  9. using too high a gear  will actually increase fuel consumption. its about keeping the engine revs in the most appropriate range between 1000 and 1500 rpm gives the maximum economy and the speed that happens at varies according to car and tyres used.

in theory it sounds ok but if you can hear your engine struggling then you're not using enough revs and actually using more fuel than you need. check your rev counter if you have on or the tone of your engine.

  10. It depends on many factors , size of car, size of engine , type of engine, gear ratios etc

The engine is at is most economical when "cruising" so if you change up to early you make the engine labour which is bad for fuel and the engine

There is no rules for each gear or speed it just comes with driving experience by listening to the engine. Or if you have a car with an MPG gauge you can look at that

From what you have said do you put in it 6th at 60 and 7th at 70 ?
