  1. Just plain STUPID

  2. It is the lack of respect for the rules of the roads..........

  3. it depends.  in a highly watched area  such as camera's etc  most will drive to the speed limit.

in everyday traffic most will drive to what the feel comfortable speed on that road.

there are always exceptions to this ( Kid drivers etc)

In one traffic work hold up there was a slip road down one side, the police set up a camera and recorded all the drivers who went over the posted speed limit while work was in progress.

in all they stopped on average one in three drivers for speeding.

of those almost everyone was a pillar of society such as a magistrate.

experiments have also shown that where a speed limit is set blatantly too low more than 80% of drivers will ignore it.

An example would be teh  old A13 through barking. It has a 40Mph  posted speed and for a main two lane highway was woefully slow.  The boroughs connecting Barking (dagenham) had teh sam eroad but with a 50PMH speed limit. The percentage fell to around 50% that kept speeding.

tests have also shown that a change of JUST 5MPH can bring another huge swathe of drivers into line and reduce speeds overall.

sadly like most motor industry research it was not applied.

so in answer to you interesting question= Yes but!! where it is found that a road has an acceptable speed? by drivers  almost all will comply.

So maybe the answer   will fit not fit  the question?

  4. The speed limit is just that, the limit, not a suggestion.  It's the fastest speed you can travel that road safely under perfect conditions.  If the conditions are less than perfect due to anything, the prima facie limit goes into effect, which says you can't drive any faster than is safe, regardless of the limit.  Rain, snow, ice would all dictate you slow down.  So would fog, heavy traffic, or pot holes.

  5. it is a tame way to be deviant.  It is just one of those small things we can do as a little way to protest the rules of society and because most people do it it is not that big of a deal.

  6. They have a speed limit there for a purpose. These people are not obeying the law, and they will undoubtedly be pulled over for this at some point. I love it when I see them pulled over and I drive by them as the policeman is getting out of his car. Just puts a big smile on my face!

  7. i cruise at 5 over usually.
