It is a very safe place to live in for a guy and for a girl...  All day and all night.... most expats feel very free to go out at night without feeling unsafe...and I'm not saying that because I'm Emirati.... and what Hermes is saying is nothing but a lie... If we were oppressed by our rulers you wouldn't have seen their photos put on cars... everyone knows how much Emirati's love their sheikhs and its very obvious...

Safest place in the world for women!  An ive lived in India, Australia, UK and Canada.  My wife, from India, loves it here and refuses to move back.  She can go wherever she wants whenever she wants in cabs or public transport.  Welcome to Dubai!

It is not a safe place. Sheikhs are at complete liberty to 'take away' the unescorted women. This comes from someone who has lived there for 3 years or so.

On a scale of 1 to 10 - 1 being unsafe and 10 being the safest, I would rank Dubai to be 8 (for a girl). Unless you are very naive or foolhardy it is safer than any Indian city that I know of - I have lived in Banglore and Hyderabad. I would suggest however that you try and have company when you go out for the first few days till you get to know the city a little.

Dubai is a very safe place to live.  I have lived here for over a year but then coming from the UK that isn't hard!
