Dublin is the capital city of the Republic of Ireland,  however that is the english version of the word.  The correct name in the Irish language is     BAILE ATHA CLIATH. which translates as  "the town at the ford with hurdles"   When the town was being established many centuries ago, the first settlers built hurdles at the shortest point across the River Liffey and established a town there.  In Dublin the word Baile Atha Cliath is used everywhere on maps,buses etc.
