i love animals and zoos generally but i have been there a few times and find it very boring. i havent been in about 4 years though, so it may be improved now.

We visited Dublin Zoo last year and found it to be very nice and quite large. Large selection of animals held within a variety of enclosures including an African section based around a lake (If I remember correctly).

The Zoo is a little run down in places but still worth the visit.

We took a 1 and 3 year old and they loved it.

We visited in the middle of summer (though it still rained) and parking was a headache. Should be easier off-season.

In my opinion I was there twice and I didn't enjoy it at all but that might be because I don't like animals and just found it boring.

But you should visit it to know in future, My friends enjoyed it, They think all the animals were cute so if you like animals than it is worth a visit.

If you like zoos or have children with you it is worth a visit.  The old part of the zoo is built around an ornamental lake and is quite old.  The original gatehouse dates back I think to Victorian times but is no longer in use.

If you go early in the day you won't have as much trouble parking. You can park on the main avenue and walk across or park outside the back entrance opposite the Garda (police) depot.  It is not cheap in but you can make a day of it.  I would agree that you could bring sandwiches or something to eat as of course, once in, you are  captive audience just like any similar place.  

the zoo has made great strides in recent years and is not the place of my childhood with small cages and enclosures.  there is much more concern about the animals welfare.

You can stroll around the Phoenix Park when you are there and see the deer which roam freely (straight up the main avenue and left at the roundabout is where they usually are).

Hi, Yes it is well worth a visit, so is Phoenix Park that it is situated in. If you are visiting Dublin then take a tour bus it's around 14 euros for an adult but the bus drivers do you deals, they are an hop on off bus all day and take you to all the main tourist attractions which includes Phoenix Park, if you go in the winter wrap up warm it's very open and very cold.

been a good while since i was last there. Found it pretty depressing esp where they had the poor elephants living. I dont know if theyve improved, but i dont really like zoos anyway...its just jail for animals. But i guess if more people go the more money they would have to at least make it a bit nicer for them, so i have mixed feelings.

ya it sure is. its quite big and very extensive and has been done up over the past few years so now there is a whole huge area set aside for the elephants, and some learning centres about all the animals also. there is also a huge new area known as the africanplains which is amazing and also the zoo is now home to many new baby animals, such as the baby giraffe and elephant.

its really very lovely, and is in Phoenix Park which is basically a huge park which has lots of lovely paths for walks, lovely picnic areas, play areas, the Wellington Memorial , and of course Aras an Uachtarán (the home of the president) ... each are all lovely places to visit :)

I can't understand why people are moaning about parking being a pain - what zoo can you park for free in a huge open air park with plenty of places to picnic, have coffee etc - and still on the edge of the city! Have you ever tried parking at London Zoo, Regents park, since the congestion charge came in!

We went in the 2nd week of August last year, took 2 cars (as 8 of us went) and the kids had a fab time, the silver-back gorilla impressed my 11 year old and my hubby was happy as he saw meerkats which are his fave. I would take your own food unless you want to eat burgers, nuggets & chips though, it could do with a bit of an update on the catering side - but we saw the baby elephant (he was huge already, but still a baby!)

All in all we had a great day out, then the kids played footie in Phoenix park - it rained a little but we just sheltered in the trees

OMG I love Dublin zoo I have been going there for as long as I can remember Its a great day for all the family I still go at least twice during the summer and I'm nearly 19 its better during the summer as even though the summer is cold I couldn't imagine walking around the zoo in the rain haha!! And also they have student discount :-)

no its not. its awful looking at the poor animals in captivity in a place where the eco system cant support them and thedy have no freedom

Yes, its a nice day out. Good animals, good setup. But if you want to get lunch or a drink while your in there, i recommend bringing your own food and drink in, because the shops and stalls are too pricy. Parkings a pain but its worth it.
