Question:

Is e-85 really a "green"ethanol product?

I've heard recently that the production of e-85 here in the midwest is neither cost efficient (corn denature costs soar compared with sugar cane crush and squeeze) nor is it "green" due to the carbon unit output of denaturing. What's the real deal?

  1. There are ALOT of videos showing that IT IS NOT WORTH IT!

I might sound very environmently friendly, but think about how much fuel it takes to cut and plow A HUGE AMOUNT of    corn.

Conclusion:   Whether you buy normai gas or not, it won't make much of a difference.

  2. The answers are correct I just want to add.  They are now developing an ethanol made from a moss that grows on water that will work better than anything from our food chain.  It can be grown and harvested kind of like cranberry's on water.  Ow yes it is actually green in color.

  3. It's is not a green product.  It's a product designed to  make our limitted supply of gasoline (oil) last longer.

  4. That's the real deal - it is strictly a political move and probably consumes more energy than it produces.  In addition, there are revolutions cropping up all over the world because we have screwed up the world's food supply chain.  This little experiment is going to change the world, and not for the better.

  5. was in a the newpaper this morning

Large areas of Rainforest have been felled to make way for this so called Green crop -- so is doing the planet harm

  6. You have your facts strait.  It is NOT a green product.  If everything is just perfect, a corn farmer will use 1 gallon of fuel to produce 1.3 gallons of corn ethanol.  Quiet often everything is not "just perfect," and the corn farmer uses more oil products to grow the corn than it returns.  Oil products include the fuel for the tractors, fertilizer, insecticides, fungicides, ect.  All are oil based.

E-85 is also only 15% ethanol.  The 85% is regular old gasoline.

  7. the real deal is that e-85 burns less efficiently and causes more emmissions, it takes food from us, and cannot be efficiently made.  it has been promoted by some politicians to attempt to appease their "green" constituents, but all it will really do is add more cost to everything and raise inflation
