I have two questions about eBay as I am planning to buy a few things online. Is it safe to give out credit card details to eBay ? And are the items sold by eBay genuine and new ?

  1. most of the time all is great what you do is set up a paypal account it works just like a bank the money will come out of your bank account into paypal or you can add the money to it...most sellers like and use paypal only to keep from getting taken....... either way before buying read about the person's selling habits and see what others have said about them its a good choice if there is more than one person saying thing bad is wise not to buy from them ...ive been selling a few yrs and buying.... all has went well so far

  2. Is ebay a safe place to shop?

Yes. It is much safer than giving your credit card to a corrupt  food server in a restaurant who takes credit cards (out of view) and skims the data with a skimming device then sells the info.

    Are the items sold genuine?

    Used items most often are

New items may or may not be, especially higher priced items,   but don't believe everything you read. I would stay away from high-fashion women's items. This is a HUGE rip-off market everywhere.  Some other (new) items are  genuine but possibly stolen merchandise.

Having said this, ebay is great and I never had a problem with any seller siince I became an ebay member in 1997.

  3. Rather than give your credit card information to sellers on eBay, I would urge you to create a PayPal account.  It's much safer than handing your card info to total strangers (not something you'd do in the off-line world, right?)  PayPal is reputable, as is eBay.  I have bought quite a number of things from eBay (mostly small things for small amounts), and have never had any serious problems at all.

  4. I've had good and bad experiences on Ebay. I recently purchased some Disney DVDs that when they arrived were clearly fake, and a few other incidences... But Ebay is a reputable company and if you recieve something that is not what you ordered or not at all like the description or if it's damaged, anything not to your satisfaction, you can dispute it. 9 times out of 10 you will get your money back or whatever agreement you and the seller come to, the seller will usually work with you to fix the problem because they don't want you to give them a bad rating that will bring their score down. Low score equals less sales.
