Is each hour on a sundial 15 degrees?

Also does anyone know does a sundial have to have the angle of lattitude on the front of the gnonom and the back or just the front?

  1. 360/24=15 so YES


  2. No.  To be accurate, the sundial must be calibrated for your latitude, and possibly be seasonally adjusted as well.

    A sundial at the north pole would have 24 hour-indicators 15 degrees apart, but it would stop working once a year for six months.

    15 x 24 = 360

    and 360 is a complete circle.

  4. Well, the answer above is correct, but since a sundial only is effective for about 12 hours (more or less), and the sun only is seen through an arc of about 180 degrees (more or less), it's

    180 degrees/12 hours = 15 degrees/hour

    Same answer, just.... a little more accurate.
