I'm also going to Venice and Florence in about three weeks. Is it a good time weather-wise? Are there crowds?? Thanks for your advice!

  1. Yes lovely time, April with easter and all = too crowded

  2. In all of these places, there are always crowds, even in January.   Make sure you factor in a little relax time, and don't be afraid to wander the back streets where tourists don't often go - you'll see the most wonderful things and have a much nicer experience for not having to elbow your way to it!

The weather should be nice through May, not quite as stifling as July/August, but still warm and sunny.

Remember that 1st May is a holiday, and not a great day to get trains, etc.

  3. Rome is always busy reagardless of the month. May is a lovely time however as the weather is nice, still not too hot but not too cold. You should be able to go out and about without having to bother about jackets etc...

Weather wise, today in Rome was 21 degrees (so the temperature gage told me) although the nights are a little cool still.

There will be crowds at all the main sites, especially the Vatican, around the Spanish Steps, Trevi Fountain and to get into the Colosseum...but there is nothing you can do but wait in line too!

  4. Full of tourists here... come in August: Rome is empty that time!

  5. May is a nice time to visit Italy.  I suggest go to rome first then florence then rome by train.  Its a lovely sight  with the greens everywhere.   These cities are always crowded  but not as crowded on june july and august.  Catch the early train to each city so that you can enjoy the sunrise.  Buy tickets in train station or here via trenitalia.

    Enjoy!
