  1. Good for Thursdays - not Sundays, but that's just a personal opinion.

To me, curry chicken is like a substitute for curry goat. I understand people love it just as much if not more than curry goat, but personally speaking curry goat would make a better Sunday dinner. It's all about opinions and preferences in the end.

My family always likes to try something different on a Sunday evening, so if you feel for it, go for it.

  2. its too traditional...go for the steamed parrot fish or snapper...u wont be disappointed.

  3. Curry chicken isn't bad at all. But make sure it's with rice and peas, with some veggies on the side.

PS. Dont forget a nice cool glass of juice

  4. okay a typical sunday dinner is more of a 2 courser and the main thing is the presence of rice and peas (rice and kidney beans steamed in a spiced coconut milk)

this is usually served with 1 or 2 meats (usually a roast or somthing like peppered steak, stewed chicken or pork), another staple (e.g. macaroni pie, potato salad or canned plantains) and vegetable and/or salad

This is followed by some traditional desert (potato budding, corn pone, toto etc.)

And there must be a fruity drink.

Now... the reason curry is not typical is because it is usually served with plane rice.  However, these days curry is being served with rice and peas, expecially curry chicken so it is becoming a popular choice.  What makes the diffrence from a weekday dinner is the presence of rice and peas.

Interestingly with the presence of the cookshop and rice  and peas being a daily occurance these days... more ellaborate meatkind is being saught to diffrenciate Sunday dinner... so things like lamb

fish, lobster, duck, etc.  are finding there way unto the Jamaican table.

A suggetion... you could add an appetiser to the meal.(saltfish fritters, jerk wings etc) and use roti as your other starch

Bon appetite... or i dont know... full yuh belly!!

    :)

  5. No that is more for a during the week dinner. If you are eating curry chicken on a Sunday, you are either in a rush and curry cooks faster than a more elaborate recipe or you are broke and making something that will stretch.

  6. Ya...it is. What are you gonna eat with it???? Let me recommend rice and pea to go along with it.

  7. Curried chickenn is not a typical Sunday dinner.  Sunday would be more like rice and peas, macaroni and cheese (in Jamaica we don't refer to it as macaroni pie as other Caribbean islands do). and maybe a potato salad.  Fried or baked plantain and a salad along with maybe two meats - roast beef and baked chicken is usually done at my house, maybe alternating meats with like roast pork.

This would be followed by ice cream and cake or pudding - bread pudding, potato pudding etc.

A good cookbook is "The Real Taste of Jamaica" by Enid Donaldson.

  8. not really but people normally eat bake chicken, curry goat, fry fish, or fry chicken for sunday dinner with rice and peas.

  9. Sure. Sunday dinner is all about being with family and/or friends; it's less about what you're eating than who you're eating with.

    But that's just what I think ~*
