Question:

Is eating out cheaper than cooking?

seen on a US website, where I suppose dining out, like just about everything else, is much cheaper than in Britain. But might it also apply here? Or only if you ate in a fast food place? Is it possible to eat out healthily for less than preparing the same food at home?

  1. Nope. I haven't eaten one meal out that wouldn't have been cheaper to cook at home.  Even fast food places, like the McDonald's $1 menu.  If I bought say four $1 burgers and four $1 fries, I'd spend $8.  I could cook a lot more than 4 burgers and 4 orders of fries at home for that same $8.

  2. I have found that eating out is definitely more expensive than cooking at home. You can easily spend a good 10.00 and that's just having fast food if you really want a nice decent meal you will spend alot more. I can buy some steak for less than that and still have left overs. Plus you have to remember that when you cook your own food you know what your putting in it. Unlike eating out it taste great, but who knows what were eating.

  3. yes ... considering everything ... especially here in Davao, Philippines where you can eat all you can (appetizers, salads, 8 main courses, desserts, drinks) for less than $2 !!

besides, i don't have to pay for cooking gas and dishwashing costs ...

  4. No its cheaper to do your own cooking. Depending on what sort of cook you are the meal will taste better, also you know exactly what goes into it and you can make it as healthier as you want it to me

  5. NO! Even if you ONLY go for fast food it will be always cheaper if you prepare your meals at home.

  6. Ahhh, the inevitable eating out versus eating in question. I agree with a gentleman earlier that said the you'll definitely be more likely to want to eat at home for fear of poorly handled food, but you also are more likely to be informed of what goes into your food. Read labels: mono sodium glutamate is a chemical they put in food to make you feel like you're eating something good for you (even if it isn't) so you'll eat more, and then it makes you hungry faster. High fructose corn syrup is a huge cause of weight gain from soda, but if you look at the label even your bread might have some in there.

Besides, if you're a normal person and need to watch what you eat then you're much better off at home. The rich sauces and fillers they put in restaurant or fast-food fare is calorie-laden. I recently went to a Macaroni Grill and their simple salmon boasted being only a whopping 600 calories. Wow!! I don't want to know how many the other choices had.

  7. It's not cheaper, and it's definitly not healthy.

  8. home cooking is best.

  9. NOT EVEN CLOSE

if u go to sub-way and get a footlong sub with chips anda  drink it is 8 bucks so i u did that twice a day u would be spenind 16 bucks for 2 means

2 meals a day and 30 days a month 480 bucks that cost more then it would for the food

  10. It depends on where you eat out.

If it's a full service sit down quality place, it would be cheaper at home.

If it's a fast food or buffet type of place, you may save money eating there.

But ask yourself about the health quality of either one. If you want good healthy food in your diet, eat at home. You know how it's handled, cooked and exactly what's in it.

If I'm having a chicken breast for dinner, I find it much more enjoyable knowing that it wasn't sitting on a back room sink counter for two hours before being cooked, and then it wasn't cooked in some cheap unhealthy fat that had been laying around too.

    Cheers.
