  1. Technically, eggs are vegetarian. This is because the eggs we eat are not fertilized and hence, not alive.

However, they are obviously not plant (vegetation) based and they do come from an industry as cruel as the meat industry (if not more).

They also offer free health hazards such as cholesterol and excess protein (which, actually consumes more energy to digest than it releases - resulting in bad food economics in the body).

They are also far less energy efficient to produce than plant based food as the hen that lays the eggs consumes far more food and produces far more heat (contributing to global warming) than involved in the production of equivalent plant based nutrients.

So while they are "technically" vegetarian, you would do yourself AND the planet a favour by avoiding them.

P.S. Before the nutrition scare bandwagon starts pelting me with hate, let me just say that there is enough and more protein in plant based foods. Just make sure you have lentils and soy and you're good to go.

  2. The UK food standards agency has issued guidelines on what can be called vegetarian and vegan -- the press release is at http://www.food.gov.uk/news/pressrelease...

According to those guidelines, egg is vegetarian, it is not vegan.

  3. Eggs are not from a machine, they are from a chicken

Some Vegetarians will eat them some won't. Some will eat everything but meat... others will not eat anything that comes from an animal, Meat, eggs, milk, cheese, etc. It depends of how strict a vegetarian is.

  4. Ovo vegetarians eat eggs. As long as the egg hasn't been fertilized, it is vegetarian. Vegetarians don't eat dead animals, but most of use eat animal products like: eggs, dairy and honey.

Vegans are the one's who don't eat or use any animal based products.

  5. No, they don't grow out of the ground.

  6. hey eggis vegetarian becoz now adays eggs r made by machinery

  7. Think rationally u would know the real answer.

In the real context of "vegetarianism", egg is not vegetarian. Furthermore, ANY products that invention of well-known cruelty, violence and abuse are not regarded as "satvic, therefore is not "vegetarian".

Eggs & babies are precious to all mothers.

I do not know how serious are u being a vegetarian. Being for whatever reason, pls explore further...this is a rare picture that u should save into your desktop...

  8. yes, for lacto-ovo vegetarians, but not for lacto vegetarians

  9. no..

    Buddhist vegetarian don eat eggs..

  10. lacto-ovo/ovo vegetarians eat eggs because it is not living.

egg farms contain only egg producers, females,so they are not fertilized and have no chance of becoming a chicken thus it just an animal by product and it is not killed to be eaten b/c it was never alive.

  11. I don't think eggs are vegetarian because they come from chickens.

  12. Yes, eggs are vegetarian.

As don't contain any meat nor are they living.

An egg is basically a chickens period!

  13. I wouldn't eat it... but sometimes it's hard not eat it because they often put eggs in bread. I probably still consume egg products even though I don't eat eggs themselves. Same thing with milk..

  14. Most vegetarians do not eat animals because they were not treated well. They were kept in very small cages, did not have a happy life and tehn were killed. Eggs are natural, they are laid by birds.

Yes an egg is a baby animal, but it was not developed yet, so its like equivalent to killing an insect for example.

  15. Yes egg is vegetrian.

  16. no,

Vegetarian is when you don't eat meat at all.

Vegan is where you don't eat anything that comes from animals,

    like eggs, dairy, meat.

  17. Eggs are considered suitable for vegetarians because thier direct consumption does not require the death of an animal.

Commercial eggs are unfertilised and therefore you are not depriving a chicken of its life.

Thats the official view, I have another view on eating commercial eggs and thats because the actual "process" and business case requires the death of millions of hens every year, whether they be old layers, male, ill or just surplus.

This applies to every type of commercial egg - organic, free range, barn and caged.

I think the way layer hens are kept, even free range ones, is pretty much well documented.

If you are to eat eggs, the most ethical way is via your own hens or via a trusted "hobby farmer" where you know the males and old hens are retired rather than killed.

  18. egg is chicken period.

  19. Non animal flesh nutrition. While chickens are scavengers their basic diet is grain meal.  Eggs are chicken embryos.

  20. well this can be arguable, i think yes because for a chicken to lay an egg you dont need a rooster. therefore there is no 'soul or lifeform' in that egg. Even if the hen sits on the egg etc a chick wont be born it will just turn into a rotten egg. So if your planning on being a vegetarian i think its fine to eat eggs! i hope i answered your question :D

  21. No, eggs come from chicken, they are not vegetables.
