  1. That depends, if your power cord has  an LED (light emitting diode) or a little light then very little is being used, You can find an example of this on most power cords for laptop computers.  For instance if you turned off a table lamp and there are no other little lights or LEDs then it's an open circuit.  There is electricity all the way up to the point the circuit is open.  Just think of water flow traveling in the wire at any point if you make an open the water would stop flowing, just like electricity current.  NOTE: The word "current".  Hope this helps.

    Its best to unplug things.

    Like my DVD Player has a little red light on when I turn it off.

  4. To conserve more electricity it is recommended that you unplug things that you are not currently using so I would assume that there is a small amount of energy still being used.
