  1. No, not really.

  2. No. I do all upto bath with electricity. Many times, I switch off all lights, fans etc. in my office and go out to view / enjoy summer, winter, rain, sky etc.

Electricity is not necessary during eating, during talking etc. Many times I take rest without any electricity (fan etc.), Natural is best. Use less curtain, enjoy more sunlight etc.

  3. In New York City, during our big blackout a few summers ago, it was the most peaceful and friendly I've ever seen people. We all wandered around, chatting and laughing with strangers, and sharing food (and drink) on stoops, sidewalks, and rooftops.

It makes me think that, as a conservation tactic and a sort of city-wide block party, we should have at least one planned blackout day each summer.

Of course we'd need to keep the hospitals, senior centers, and emergency services "plugged in," but otherwise, I think we should do it to prove to ourselves - and the world - that sometimes less consumption is FUN!

  4. I think not. But we are dependent on it in are lives today. We just need to be more efficient with what we have and what we use.

  5. not at all.

we have to depend on the sunlight also.

use solar power for lighting, heating water etc and save electricity.

  6. Hey!  I have a romantic/energy saving way to save energy.  Use candles in the bathroom when showering.  It is really relaxing and you feel a little more relaxed when done.

  7. Try to live without it in the citie, and you will find how necessary it is!,Someone is talking about the bath. Dear me you cannot get water even, if there is no electric supply!

  8. Not necessary.

  9. I interpret your question to mean is it possible to turn off the electricity of a neighborhood  for a period of time duriing the day.

The answer is of course, yes it is. It is done all the time when we have power outages to accidents and storms.

People with critical functions, such as those on mechanical ventilators need to be warned in advance that the electricity will be turned off at a particular time during the day so they can make other arrangements to keep their medical equipment that is keeping them alive operating.

The important question is why would you want to turn the electricity off at particular times during the day.

I can offer you one reason and that is to reduce the necessity to increase the capacity of the grid when it is already working at 100% of capacity.

Ther is another way to accomplish the same result with much less disruption to people, and that is to reduce the voltage in the electric grid by approximately 10%.

Most electric appliances actually operate at higher efficiency at slightly lower voltages than the ones currently in use on our electrical grid. Most appliances will operate as well as they do now at voltages approximately 10% less than they are now.  The increase inthe efficiency is approximately 5%.

Effectively the result is the same as if you increased the capacity of the electric grid by 5%. You also decrease the use of fossil fuels to generate electricity by 5% which is a huge decrease.

Reducing the voltage in the electric grid by 10% is one of the most beneficial and environmentally friendly things that you can do to slow down Global Warming.

  10. Well...no. Not while, for example, bathing or gassing-up the lawn mower.

  11. No, it isn't that necessary all the time.

  12. in the streets yes.  in your household with household appliances, no!

  13. well considering we've only had electricity for  a little over a hundred years, I think we could manage without it for a little bit at  a time. Its kinda fun when a storms knocks out the power for a bit. Good for the family(whether they like it or not I don't know).

  14. No..when it's still light outside..just have the curtains and drapes and shades open.
