Okay so I need just a little bit of help or impartial thoughts from you!

We are wanting to emirate to Australia as we are both nurses and want to give our sons aged 14 and 18 a better life.

The pros for being in Uk is that we have a very low mortgage and have good jobs/income here in Uk with no debts.

Cons is that Uk seems to be getting more violent which makes me fear for my sons safety. Also housing prices going crazy meaning they will unlikely be able to affored their own homes.

Would Australia still be a good move for us do you think? We would probably have to take on a bigger mortgage in Australia but would have a nicer home in better area and climate. Kids may be safer and have better prospects for buying their own homes.

What do you think? Some of my mates have said go for it and envy us yet others have said we are mad to consider it when we have a reasonably low mortgage over here????

  3. In the end, this is a decision that only you and your family can make. We would love to have you but moving country is a big deal. I moved here from New Zealand when I was 8 and even then it was quite hard. If you are worried about house prices, I wouldn't move to Sydney. I live in the Eastern Suberbs of Sydney, which is the expensive area, and we get our house for free but the prices in the area are really going up. Then again, if you live half an hour from the city the prices are fine again so it really depends on where you want to be. Good luck on your decision and I hope that your family makes  the decision that is best for you.

  4. I can only see things getting worse in this country, until the government are given their marching orders.

You don't say what your sons think of the idea, but if they agree

good luck to you and don't look back.

You will probably only get one chance so go for it, if you don't you will always be thinking if only.

  5. Ghee, that's a curly one.

Manly because of the kids ages.

Only you rfamily can decide this one.

    Good luck.

  6. It is very much worth it, i missed out on my sisters 18th and her getting engaged, and of course i missed been there with her, but they all know im only a phone call, text or e-mail away.

My brothers going into the navy so when i go visit next year i may miss out on seeing him again, and most of my very close friends have had children.

    But I wouldn't change anything.

I have found a fantastic boyfriend, got a house, a car, a kitten, a good job, great friend, and i absolutley love Melbourne.

And the people are much friendlier here to, much more liad back, specially if you head up to queensland. great people.

  7. Try to find a place in Queensland that gets plenty of rain, and is tropical.  You don't want to move somewhere dry.

  8. The grass is greener on the other side...!  Australia has good and bad parts like the rest of the world, and still has drugs, crime, violence, racism etc.  People I know who recently went there to live aren't having as high standard of life as they got in Britain.  They expected to be better off, but they are not.

  9. Some of the parts in Sydney could be more expensive than London to buy a house.

As for crimes, I think it is no less violent than the UK.

The standard of medicine is not as high as the UK.

They attempted a root canal treatment 4 times without success.  I was also misdiagnosed for Thyroid disease which was later found by a consultant in London.

People are much more friendly than in the UK but not necessarily stimulating, and could be quite confrontational.

Personally I much preferred living in the UK to Australia.

  10. only you can decide but you better get a move on as the cut of age for skilled worker visa is 40

  11. Australia is a great place to live. I came here with my parents in 60s on the 10 quid government scheme.

The exchange rate would see you nearly double your money and you can get a nice home here for 300 to 400 thousand.

Don't think there is no violence here though as some areas are extremely bad (do some homework first)

I live in Adelaide South Australia & wouldn't live anywhere else (can be dry though) Perth Western Australia is great as is most of Australia. Depends what your looking for.

Have you considered Tasmania it's cooler & very English.

There are plenty of jobs in nursing. My daughter & 2 sisters are nurses.

  12. I'd do it in a heartbeat Hun - but I bet your lads aren't keen. We looked at it when our daughter was about the same age - she dugs her heels in to h**l :(
